Can My Pets Use Relive Everyday’s CBD Products?
When you find a product you love, it’s natural to want to share it. We keep hearing from pet owners about how they are sharing their Relive Everyday products with their pets. Just like in people, CBD can contribute to a sense of calm, can promote healthy joints and skin, and can help with recovery from pain for your pets. If your furry friend suffers from dry skin, gets anxious when you leave or from loud noises, or suffers from joint pain, CBD might be able to help.
CBD is Non-Psychoactive and Safe for Pets
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid found in hemp plants. Cannabinoids are naturally occurring chemicals found hemp plants which are known to have therapeutic applications. CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce the “high” associated with marijuana and its active cannabinoid called THC. Relive Everyday’s products are made using hemp, which means they must contain less than 0.3% THC by dry weight, according to the U.S. government.
Pets Have An Endocannabinoid System
CBD works with our natural endocannabinoid system or ECS. Just like humans, animals have an ECS made up of receptors that help regulate a variety of the body’s processes. The ECS contributes to supporting and maintain balance and homeostasis. It works with the digestive system, immune system, brain, and nervous system, helping to regulate appetite, sleep, relaxation, and the body’s repair process. The ECS works this way in pets in the same way it does in people. When our pets take in CBD by eating it or through a balm on their skin, the CBD attaches to the receptors in the ECS and can influence their sense of well-being.
How Much CBD for my Pet
It may take some trial and error to determine which products and amounts are best for your pet. You can add drops of RE-LIVE Everyday natural-flavored tincture into their food. Or open a capsule of RE-ASCEND, and sprinkle a bit on their food. Sometimes the taste, texture, or smell of a CBD product can make our pets turn their noses up at us. Ideas from our customers to get your pet on board include adding a few drops of tincture to a chunk of cheese, sneaking a capsule into a chew toy full of peanut butter, and adding drops to some delicious bone broth in their water bowl.
While we share an endocannabinoid system, animals’ digestive systems are different from ours. Start with small servings and low concentrations when trying CBD products with your pets. Give it to them at the same time every day. Observe how they are feeling after a few days before making alterations. They may be feeling more relaxed or even tired or be more active if their pain is reduced. Common adverse side effects include changes in their bathroom habits. If they are having diarrhea, back off and give them less or try a different form. For example, if you were adding drops of a tincture, try using a balm or capsules. If the product does not seem to be having an effect after a week, try slowly increasing the amount or concentration.
CBD and Other Medications
If your pet is taking other medications, it’s good to check with your vet about interactions. Taking CBD can impact the effectiveness of other medicines. High doses of CBD can temporarily inhibit enzymes that metabolize drugs in the liver in a similar way as grapefruit does.
