Don’t get us wrong, the internet can be wonderful. But it’s also one of the single most toxic creations that have ever happened to humanity. For all of the knowledge that we’ve accumulated online, we mainly use the internet for social media. In fact, according to some sources, half the world uses social media.
Social media isn’t inherently awful. It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends and family who don’t live in your immediate area. And how else are you going to learn about concerts, kickball leagues, or any other event without social media?
What is terrible about social media is using it to compare yourself to others. That’s a one-way street to depression and anxiety, according to experts. Try limiting your social media intake to 30 minutes or less per day to avoid this.
If that’s not possible, consider a full-blown social media cleanse. Delete your apps from your phone, and don’t log in to any of your accounts for 30 days. Then, slowly ease back into it. You’ll be amazed at how liberating it can feel without social media!

One crucial part of self-care is letting go. And we can’t do that if we’re constantly feeling anxious and stressed all the time. Those kinds of feelings can trigger your fight-or-flight response, making it difficult to get into a positive routine.

In other words, that means this substance could be an effective way to reduce stress and anxiety. One way to improve your environment is by filling it with people who will care for you and support you. Whether it takes the form of a sports club, spiritual group, professional association, or just a gathering of friends who meet up at the bar on Friday nights, a community is a critical part of self-care.
Being part of a community can help you love yourself more in several ways. First, it connects you with a network of like-minded people. You can bounce ideas off these people, learn from their own positions, and enjoy each other’s company. In addition, communities help build a sense of shared and individual identity. These factors play a massive part in helping you love yourself.
While having a community is fantastic, lacking one can be a severe problem. To see an example of that playing out today, look around you. Experts have noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has also triggered an “epidemic of loneliness.” Nearly 35 percent of Millennials and 27 percent of Zoomers reported feeling isolated and lonely during the pandemic, increasing over the years prior.
Those results are pretty straightforward. Even though it can be more complicated than ever to build a community in 2022, it’s never been more important!
Craft a Happy Place
On some level, we’re all a product of our environments. That goes not only for the places we spent time in while we were growing up but also the ones that we continue to exist in today. We can’t go back and change our previous environments. But we can do some things to make a happy place in our lives today.
One of the easiest ways to craft a happy place is by de-cluttering. Clutter can clog up the energy of your happy place, turning it into the opposite of what you’d intended. In fact, a 2011 study demonstrated this conclusively. Data showed that participants with more objects in their visual fields can lead to poor attention and focus.
As a result, cleaning up your environment can directly lead to improved self-care. But where do you start? Marie Kondo has long espoused the benefits of tidying up and even has her own techniques. You don’t necessarily need to follow her exact method but keep it in mind when cleaning up your own happy place.
